Conductix-Wampfler has officially launched CAP (Cable Auto Plug-In) as another innovative solution within our full-range product portfolio. CAP is a fully-automated plug-out/plug-in system used when E-RTGs (Electrified Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes), powered by motor driven cable reels, need to change container blocks. With this innovative solution, Conductix-Wampfler supports the goal of port automation, enhances safety within container terminals, and improves operational efficiency and productivity.

When cable-powered E-RTG crane moves to a different container block, one or two workers must disconnect the crane from the power grid and reconnect it at the new location. This manual process takes approximately 20 minutes. It is costly to execute, unsafe for ground personnel, and increases crane downtime.

The CAP process takes less than one minute and requires no ground personnel. Therefore, CAP eliminates the safety risk to personnel, reduces maintenance costs, and minimizes crane downtime.

The new CAP system was unveiled at this year’s TOC Europe in Rotterdam. The container handling industry heralded it as a significant improvement in the operation of cable-powered E-RTGs. Now CAP is officially available to promote the terminal operator’s evolution towards port automation.
